I came home this morning from working a night shift to find several little white worms in my dog's water bowl and one lonely guy wiggling around in an empty dog food bowl. Huh, gross. I noticed one dog snacking on something on the carpet, another worm (!) and called the vet in a panic. I picked several squirming guys up with a spoon put them in a ziplock bag and took them to the vet's office. The vet said they were maggots and 'big ones'. Another huh and feeling totally grossed out. I went home and noticed more on the kitchen floor. Grabbed them up with a bleach wipe and squished them. Then I did a search through my house and found more! On the linoleum in the kitchen, wood floor in the dining room and on the carpeted areas around the kitchen. Found a bunch near the sliding glass door and thought they might be attracted to light, but then found some scrunched in near the baseboards. Killed all that I could before going to bed. (Too tired to inspect my bed I slept on my dark chocolate colored couch.) I woke to do another search and found more! Then I figured I can't be the only person in the world to have had this happen to, so I Googled it and your site was the first to come up! Yeah, I'm not alone! but still have a serious situation. Now I'm off to Wally world to pick up some Raid to spray on the baseboards and floors. Then I'll vacuum, do a thorough cleaning of the house and hope for the best. I'd really like to do a Raid bomb but not at 10pm. Hopefully this works other wise I'll have to bomb the house. I feel like my entire flat is now contaminated. I literally want to move out, leave all of my possessions and start fresh somewhere these things have never been. I figured it had to be the bird dead somewhere, which it was. When I found it it was crawling with FAT maggots. I got help disposing of it and the maggots, then threw anything that was near it in the trash. I then washed that area of the floor with bleach. My question is, can/will the maggots wander away from the dead bird? Or do they stay near it? Do they lay eggs? If so how can I get rid of all the eggs? By disposing of the bird and every visible maggot, am I in the clear? If I bleach everything in the basement, will I be rid of them? Someone please help me I am a prisoner in my own home afraid to enter my basement. I can not afford to hire an exterminator. There are still a few today (squished those too). I'm sure there must be alot more hiding in damp dark places. What do I do ?
