Hi all,
I'm Dawn from England. And I did something very, very lazy and stupid last week. I left a bowl of uneaten dog food out in my flat for days, and it was hot, and I noticed a strange smell..... eventually I guessed it might be the dog food so I picked up the bowl to smell it and there, literally *inches* from my eyes was a mass of maggots <shudder>........
Now for 38 of my 38 years I have been petrified, appalled and disgusted by these creatures in equal measures. So you can guess how horrifed I was. I threw the bowl down - yes, another 'clever' thing to do, with the consequence they splattered all over my carpet.
After having hysterics down the phone to my mom I decided to kill them with boiling water. This did the trick immediately thank God. I then could not bear to get near their corpses so I hoovered them up, emptied the hoover bag, and have spent most of today disinfecting everywhere I think they might have touched.
My problem is - I can't stop thinking they're still hanging round in some nook or cranny. I feel like my entire flat is now contaminated. I literally want to move out, leave all of my possessions and start fresh somewhere these things have never been. I'm terrified to touch anything and I can't eat inside my flat as I'm so repulsed by the whole episode.
Ok so I know I sound like a psycho and i know it was all my fault, but has anyone got any advice as to how I can start to live my life again?!!!! If the odd one is still around in my flat how long will it stay in its horrible maggoty stage before it becomes a fly? And will there be maggot eggs in my carpet that could still hatch? Oh man...............
Many thanks indeed,
Dawn
