will they come back?

2 days ago i went to put a sealed bag (always sealed) in the green plastic city bin. Couldn't believe there were 1000 of these nasty maggots crawling everywhere in there.
I believe a fly was on my dog's poop when i picked it up and sealed it in a plastic bag a few days before. I put the bin outside until collection the next day. There didn't seem to be any outside the bin or on the garage floor so I thought i had a close call. After the truck emptied the bin I immediately cleaned it out with boiling water and bleach which didn't seem to faze them. I emptied the bin in the street and hosed the driveway and further down the street and watched a robin come and feed on them. I went to the garage later that day to check and saw a lot of them still crawling back from the driveway and some on the garage floor I looked under a carpet and there were some there too which i squished with my shoe. There are still a few today (squished those too). I'm sure there must be alot more hiding in damp dark places. What do I do ? Wait til they turn into flies and hope they will fly away (i'll make sure not to leave any food or garbage). What are the chances of the cycle happening again? Please help. I'm obsessing over this.

I'm guessing in a couple of days (at the most) they will all be gone. You might have a few more flies flying around for a while, but as long as there's nothing lying around for them to eat, they'll find greener pastures.

As to the cycle repeating, there will always be maggots, you just have to hope it's not in YOUR back yard. If you think the source was really the dog poop, perhaps sealing that as well would be good. (At least, it will help with the smell).

The key thing is to try and make sure you're taking away the place the flies will lay the "eggs".

Thank you James for your encouraging words.
I just went to check in the garage and haven't found any hiding in the usual places.
My other concerns are : If there are still some and when they turn into flies and somehow get into the house, will the bunny litter be a problem ? I've had the bunny for 3 years and have had a few flies fly into thru open doors and hasn't been a problem yet, but now i'm thinking about all kind of possibilities. I will now pick up after the dog as soon as she's done and seal it in a poop bag and throw it in a closed bin outside in the yard and empty it in the big city bin just before pick up. Is it safe to keep the big city bin in the garage where it's been for the last couple of years or would it be better to leave it outside the garage? Can the maggots have crawled through the walls upstairs and cocooned there near the food pantry ? I'm about to clean out the kitchen today as well as the garage. Right now the bunny food and hay is just in bags in the garage.. I guess I should put them in a closed bin from now on. I also have a fridge in the garage... can they get in there through closed door? and finally, i think, i have central vac and the bin is in the garage.. If i vaccum the bunny cage and poop gets vaccumed, can the flies get in there and lay eggs in there ? It's never been a problem before, but as you can see i'm totally obsessing over this. I always found the odd fly bothersome and either shooed it back outside or swatted it but now i have a different outlook on them and want to make sure i never have this experience again. Thanks again...

They can't get in through closed doors, and they shouldn't make it into your vacuum cleaner.

The flies will only lay their larva in food, so the maggots wouldn't have crawled TO the food.

Don't stress too much. Think about how many years you've been living like you are WITHOUT getting maggots :-)
