| JendoCru | Hello fellow maggot fighters, Just wanted to share my story and what worked best for me. It was just 3 hours ago when I went to take out the trash. Upon opening the trash bin I saw hundreds of maggots crawling around inside. I had no experience with this before and was absolutely disgusted. First, I tried raid, the kind that kills ants. I sprayed all of the maggots down real good and went inside to collect the rest of the trash. About 5-10 minutes later I go back outside to check and they are still alive and desperately trying to crawl out of the can. I had no more raid and didn’t really know what to do. I tried a couple of other things like scrubbing bubbles (foaming bathroom cleaner) and pouring bleach all over them. This pushed all the maggots to the bottom of the trash bin and I thought I had won. I took my can to the curb and let it sit. I let it rest for 15 minutes and checked back on the bin and they were back!! Crawling up from the depths…These things are resilient! I was clueless. I thought to use the carb/throttle body cleaner I had in my garage but figured it would just make it easier for them to climb out by degreasing the sides of the trash bin. It is a good thing I was wrong! After finding this site (thank you to the creators!!!!) and reading through some things on it (thank you to the people who posted!!!!!), I quickly grabbed the carb cleaner. The carb/throttle body cleaner worked extremely well, killing the maggots within 10 seconds of contact. I covered pretty much every surface inside the bin and shot down the strays on and around the bin and where it had been. After a couple minutes not a single one was left moving! Please use caution and read all of the warnings on the label before you use this stuff, it can be harmful. You can probably find it at any store that stocks automotive parts for a couple bucks: walmart, pep boys, advance auto parts, etc. The specific brand I used was Valvoline SYN carb/throttle body cleaner. I hope that helps! Again a big thank you to the creators of this website and the people who have posted their stories!!! I am now maggot free and have the knowledge to stay that way!! |

| James | Thanks for sharing this with us. It was really interesting. Any chance you’d like to right up a post/article on the benefits and dangers/risks of using carb cleaner? I’d love to put it up on the front page of this website, but I don’t really know much about it. You also have a GREAT way of writing. The more info, the better, and it will be viewed by about 2,000 people a day I reckon, (hence the need for a lot of info on the risks |
