Hi – Last week my husband found what he says were about “10,000″ maggots in the garage. They came from the trash cans which we have to keep in the garage. They had spread throughout the entire garage: under shoes, towels, boxes, even paint cans. Unfortunatley we were heading out on vacation later that day for 4 days…. We probably should have cancelled. Before we left, we swept out the garage and sprayed an entire can of raid, and then crossed our fingers…. Needless to say the thought of opening our garage to a horror scene after our trip lingered in the back of our heads for the entire weekend “getaway”. We ended up being in luck, I think, because there were no new maggots, just more that we discovered last night when we got home. We hadn’t check every corner last week because we were rushing… the problem is that now there are still a hundred or so left scattered throughout the garage and they are in the pupa stage. I read online that they are indestructible in this stage. Is this true? We sprayed some organic pesticides over the floor and my husband took the day off from work today to clean out the garage. Will this be enough? I really don’t like the story about the guy with maggots in his head… will the flys try to get in the house once they hatch?!?!? Do you think the organic pesticide is enough to kill the pupa?

Don’t worry about the maggots in the guy’s head, he was a homeless man who had an open wound that he didn’t clean.

I’m not sure about the organic pesticide, they are pretty resilient. A lot of people have found stuff like carburetor cleaner to work best. Others take the easy yet “not so nice” route of finding the and squashing them. That might be easiest when you have so many spread around.

Sweep them up and put them in a bag in the bin… Good luck and let me know how it goes.
