i get maggots in my trash often – i clean up doggie waste from yard and put in trash – it’s in tied up plastic bags, but the little buggers still get all over the trash can. i’ve tried many things, nothing seemed to work, except boiling water. lately i’ve just been rinsing them out at the curb – not killing them, but sending them off on a journey in another place. this week, i didn’t have time to rinse the can, so i just opened it to air out. later, the maggots that were hit by the sun were dead! shriveled up and dead!! that was yesterday. today, i positioned the can so the sun would hit the ones that were still kicking. and, sure enough, they shriveled up and died, too! i know this won’t work for an infestation in the house, or shadey outside area, but for those of us with trash cans full of maggots, i think the sun is our best defense!

That’s actually pretty useful info.

The sun might make the smell quite bad if you use it as a permanent solution, but to kill them the way you did, not too shabby.
